LSU Student Incubator's 2nd Annual Venture Challenge
 
 
$25,000 cash will be awarded to 4 student companies during the live final round on April 19, 2013  
 
Do you have a big idea?

The 2nd Annual Venture Challenge will showcase LSU’s brightest student entrepreneurs and provide their businesses with access to the capital and resources needed to achieve long-term success.
 
The Venture Challenge is looking to support new, independent ventures in the early growth stage. The startup venture must be a current member of the LSU Student Incubator. All LSU students are encouraged to become a member of the Student Incubator. Click here to apply! Any startup venture that fits these requirements, including non-profits, can enter. LSU Student Incubator Members must present all final round plans.

How to get involved
 
1. Attend the free New Venture Workshops
 
We will host a series of five (5) free workshops for emerging student entrepreneurs. The "New Venture Workshop" series will provide guidance needed to successfully launch or grow a business. Each session will focus on a different aspect of the business planning process:

How to prepare your pitch – what should be included and what should be left out, presentation and delivery, investor lingo and what to expect during negotiations
 
All workshops will be held in room 1800 at the Business Education Complex from 5-6PM on the specified date above. Sign-in will start at 4:45PM. The sessions are FREE and only open to current LSU students. Registration is requested and can be completed by clicking here or contacting Shannon McCormick at smccormick@lsu.edu or 225-578-3333.
 
2. Submit Your Business Plan
 
All business plans must be submitted on the Pitchburner platform by March 15, 2013. Plans can be continually updated until the deadline is reached.
 
3. Present Your Idea

The top 4 scoring plans will advance to the final live round of the Venture Challenge, which will take place on April 19, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza Baton Rouge. If selected, you will give a 10-minute presentation to both the panel of judges and a live audience followed by a 10-minute question and answer session from the panel of judges. In both rounds, the panel of judges will be made up of members of LSU and local business communities.
 
4. Win cash for your business
 
$25,000 total will be awarded among four businesses. Cash awards will be determined based on the final round of scoring. Businesses will receive cash awards up to $15,000 based on the judge’s scores. Each finalist is guaranteed at least $1,000 cash.
 
 
All participants of the 2013 Venture Challenge will be invited to showcase their business during the final love round of the competition at the Crowne Plaza. To register for a showcase table contact Shannon McCormick at smccormick@lsu.edu or 225-578-3333.

Funding will provide support for the Venture Challenge and Awards Reception and award $25,000 start-up funding to LSU student-led businesses. In order for the Venture Challenge to thrive, we need organizations to become underwriters of the program through financial pledges.

The LSU Student Incubator at the LBTC
The LSU Student Incubator assists students with business idea development so they can have their business as a career option after graduation. The program supports more than 40 student-run startups annually by providing one-on-one consulting, business planning software, mentors and speakers from the business community, an Elevator Pitch Competition, the Venture Challenge, and other valuable resources needed to start and grow a business. The LSU Student Incubator is a program of the Louisiana Business & Technology Center (LBTC).
The Louisiana Business & Technology Center (LBTC) at the LSU Innovation Park endeavors to enhance economic development in Louisiana through the support of existing small businesses and the development of new businesses.
