We house more than two dozen small businesses as tenants in our business incubator and have counseled thousands of entrepreneurs and small businesses in the state through various initiatives. Among these programs are our Technology Transfer Office, Small Business Development Center, the Mobile Classroom, and our Disaster Business Counseling Center. Additionally, we operate a student incubator to aid younger entrepreneurs who are still in school with their burgeoning businesses.
Since we were established in 1988, we have endeavored to enhance economic development in Louisiana through the support of existing small businesses and the development of new businesses. Our success as a proving ground for technology applications and utilization and as a facilitator of the formation and growth of small businesses has been recognized often over the years.
In 2005, the National Business Incubation Association (NBIA) named us Randall M. Whaley Incubator of the Year. Four years later, we received the 2009 Economic Development Administration Excellence in Economic Development Award for Rural Economic Development, recognizing the tremendous service the Mobile Classroom provides. These two awards, however, only represent a very small sampling of the honors that we have garnered collectively and as individuals.
