|Dr. Lawrence is the associate dean of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business and holds both the Gerald Cire and Lena Grand Williams Alumni Professorship and the Ourso Professorship of Communication Studies. As a member of the college’s Department of Finance, she conducts research related to poverty and the earned income tax credit, teaches financial planning courses, and is the director of the CFP Board-Registered Program. Additionally, she serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, the Journal of Financial Planning, and the Journal of Consumer Education.
Dr. Lawrence was instrumental in developing LSU’s Student Financial Management Center and is now a consultant to the center. She serves on various university committees including the University Planning Committee, the LSU Discover Undergraduate Research College Advisory Board, the LSU Communication Across the Curriculum Advisory Council, and the LSU Creative Initiatives Task Force. She has completed two terms on the Faculty Senate and three terms on the Athletic Council.
Her expertise has been recognized by numerous awards, including the LSU Alumni Association Distinguished Faculty Award. She has held various leadership positions in honorary organizations, such as Phi Kappa Phi and Gamma Sigma Delta, and in professional societies such as the Academy of Financial Services, Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education, the Financial Planning Association, and the Society of Financial Services Professionals.
Dr. Lawrence is also involved in the local community and serves on the board of directors of the Financial Planning Association of Baton Rouge and is a member of the Baton Rouge Rotary. Her philanthropic endeavors relate to cancer research and cancer education.
Dr. Lawrence earned her B.S. from Virginia Tech. Her Ph.D. and M.S. degrees were from Florida State University where she received the Centennial Laureate Award.
